Yesturday while I was crusing th internet for salamander information, I discovered something pretty cool. About an hour and a half from my house is a lake called axolotl lake. Obviously they mean tiger salamander larva but they wouldn't name it that if there wasn't salamanders there (I think). Anyway I just thought ithttp://fwp.mt.gov/fishing/guide/q_Axolotl_Lake__1118711452264.aspx was cool.

That is so funny. I discovered that once, too - I am so curious as to how the lake got that name! How cool that you live so close. Is it shaped like an axolotl? haha

I have the same link for it. Really funny that a fishing guide has an axolotl lake, considering that the one would actually rule out the other.

I ran into an article about this once too. Apparently, it is a lake out in MT that contains a relatively high population of neotenic tiger salamanders. I'm pretty sure the name "axolotl lake" refers to the neotenic "axolotl" tiger salamanders living in it.

Here's the link that I found earlier, it has a photo accompanying the article- http://images.google.com/imgres?img...&prev=/images?q=wild+axolotl&gbv=2&hl=en&sa=G

Cool Article,Ihave read this too. I asked my dad, and he said he would take me there, while I herp he will fish. What month, or months would be the best time to catch some?

That would depend on where the lake is located.

I'd like to go visit axolotl_lake, it must be a nice place with a name like that.
