My axolotl seems to like floating to the surface of the water, but he can still sink back to the bottom if he wants to. It just seems like he prefers to be near the top (he especially likes clinging to the plants). I was wondering if that is normal? I heard recently that they generally like to be at the bottom, and that floating could be caused by illness or stress.

As a side note, he also likes going to the surface to gulp air, is that bad? Thanks in advanced

Sounds pretty normal to me. Axolotls gulp air to float if they want to, it's just something they do to move about the tank.

My Axolotls loves to hang in his plant, so that sounds normal too.

Thanks for the reply, was worried about him for a second there :)

My lotl spends a lot of time at the surface too, either just floating or hiding in the plants. I think he falls asleep there!
