axolotl, new keeper

hi all, im new to this site and also new to keeping axolotls. I welcome any tips or advice from fellow keepers. I currently have only one axolotl (albino), 4 months of age and settling very well into his/her new tank(i have a feeling its female due to advice on sexing them given to me) , seems to be quite a sociable little creature, as she follows me when i walk past the tank.hope to hear from some of you soon ,regards

At 4 months of age, they all look female. They won't sexually mature until 6-18 months old.

Have you read www.axolotl.org yet? That's the best place to start, and then ask specific questions on the forum.

only had axie for a few days but seems to be doing well, pretty active and feeding, even hubby seems taken by it lol

did you get it from emporer tropicals ?
if so it was actually born on the 10th of june and is therefor 3 months old.
dont forget to add yourself to the frapper map [caudata.org user map] at the top of home page, as there are very few ofus axiekeepers down here.

yes bought from emperor so one of yours lol...the white one.....what were you feeding them as emperor said they have been eating pellets

they will eat a wide variety as i have fed them on, daphnia,live and frozen blood worm, liver[helps build them up] prawn, lance fish [frozen] pellets.
just about anything really.
if you try it should take it from your hand as thats is what they were trained to do.

yes have been feeding by hand, it eats like jaws frightened me and hubby we both jumped lol...but absolutely fascinating

looking at ur pics it looks like ur using sand which is what im using, what else do u use to decorate/create their enviroment as it would be nice to keep it used to what it knows...im also using large smooth pebbles

sand,large pebbles, some plants, black plant pot to hide in and some drift wood.
oh and half a coconut shell for putting over night snack lol.
thats my set up here.

Welcome to the boards! I am new here myself. That is a really cool looking Amphibian I have heard about these but never actually knew what their specific name was. I think at some point in the future I would be interested in keeping one or two myself. Please send pics if you get the chance, I would personally love to see some!
