hi there!

I got my first Axolotl named Lucoa since march, he was around 15cm right now.

he loses appetite and haven't eat anything for 2 days, I got panic somehow and don't know what to do, I cycled the tank with the total changed water, his gills didn't curled but the tail did.

I used carnivore shrinking pellet and dried baby shrimp(unshelled) for awhile and it looks fine, he ate a lot until the last 2 days, I tries bloodworms and he still avoiding it.

and this morning after I cycled the tank I found him opening and closing his mouth many times (I took a video of it), and he also finally poop (after around 3 days not doing it), and seems like the poop was the last shrimp he had didn't really disgested (im sorry)

can anybody help me, what is happening thay cause Lucoa opening and closing mouth like that? what should I do?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
