So, I'm very new to axolotl keeping. I've always had fish, so doing a salamander seemed like a doable change. I got my 4 inch juvenile Monday night, and I already love him! Or her!

The problem arises that the breeder fed him black worms, and I don't have access to them. So, I did a bunch of research on this site, and figured if I found tiny garden worms, it'd be fine. My garden has always been natural, for many years. No pesticides. My neighbors is the same. Today, Thursday, i came home and Tabitha seemed to have thrown up every meal I've fed him since Monday!

I was told that juveniles need small, but frequent meals. So, I fed him Monday night, Tuesday morning, late night Tuesday(had marching band practice), Wednesday morning, when I got home from school Wednesday, and I didn't feed him at all today because now I'm paranoid that I'm doing something wrong!

The worms have been very small, or a nightcrawler chunk the size of my pinkie finger nail, and he only got one meal like that. What am I doing wrong???

Doesn't sound like you are doing anything "wrong".

Sometimes they can take a little while to settle in and get used to things. If you have the ability I would suggest getting some frozen blood worms from PetSmart or PetCo, and try them after defrosting in some tank water.

Okay, I thought I was because his gills aren't curled forward like they were the past two days, so I thought he was done stressing out. Thanks for the reply, I'll try to get to PetSmart this weekend

When I got my 3 inch axolotl, the breeder had her eating frozen bloodworms so her first time trying baby earthworms was her second day with me. After 4 days she threw up but I kept giving it to her and 4 days later she threw up again but then that was it. She's fine now and she is around 6 inches. I was told by the breeder that it just takes a bit for her to get used to it. Smaller portions and don't overfeed. You're doing nothing wrong. :)
