Hi there, I just have a quick question about axolotl colors and their weight. I have noticed my leucistic axolotl seem very slender in comparison to my other axies. I would say he/she looks quite skinny but it eats regularly and never seems distressed. But I have noticed in many pictures in this forum and many others that the leucistic ones usually look thinner than others be they wild type or yellow...is there any correlation between their color and weight at all? has anyone else noticed this?

I was thinking the same thing, I hear people have said the body should be as wide as the head, other than that I'm not sure.

think mine might need fattening up a little, they eat everything but I don't want to over feed.

I find that true with my two, I have a leucistic and a WT, when I got them they were relatively the same size, now they've both grown, but the WT is huge in comparison.

Shape (in the belly) seems to be connected to gender rather than type - my girls are all plump and pear shaped with their roundness at their hip-end, my male is slimmer and more barrel-chested.

My male leucistic is slim. I've been feeding 8 small worms daily and he's only just starting to fatten up. Although he is still growing too. I don't have any other axies to compare him to though. If I look at pictures of axies on here though, I always think he looks thinner and worry about his feeding regime. But feeding twice a day must be enough.. surely?

I've managed to fatten mine up a bit. He's been having some raw freshwater salmon strips, out of desperation I tried it because he wouldn't eat anything else....he love it and has picked up heaps, looks really healthy..
