Axolotl will not eat

I would put your other axie in the fridge immediately. 27 is deadly for any length of time.

Ok so this morning I checked the temp it was 8 so I'm letting the water gradually warm. But, do axolotls shed? Because, I've found these green and white fluffy things in the tank. Not a lot but I'm concerned if his protective coat is wearing away

8 degrees is fine, as long as it doesn't go below 5. Any chance of posting a pic of what you found in the tank? Could be a fungus but hard to tell without actually seeing it.

How do I put pictures up? It just keeps asking for a URL but I haven't uploaded them anywhere
Also I put a cut up worm in the tank dangled it in front of him and absolutely no interest

here is the stuff i found
theres more but theyre the most noticable
also for an axolotl does he look rather fat still? i think so

also what is with his toe here, he looks to have two

and lastly his tail looks jagged, is that okay?

He looks a bit thin to me,their body is supposed to be as wide as their head.
No idea what the weird green stuff is though....

You could try leaving the cut up earthworm in the container with him for about an hour and see if it gets eaten. Not totally sure on the green substance either but im sure someone reading will know. Just watch out for the tip of the tail curling up/inwards. That's a sign if a stressed/unwell axolotl. And one of mine has a toe like that, just a minor deformity, nothing serious.

So I found out my other axolotl is a female and the guy at the pet store said she could be intimedating him to the point he won't eat. I've never seen them fight but I put a divider in the tank. But they still can see each other is that a problem? They also sit close to each other through the glass. Also he checked my water and he said everything is perfect
How long will it take for him to eat? 11 days now

Almost 3 weeks of not eating

I know i already posted about this but no one was replying. i am so desperate, i cant let him die. its coming up to 3 weeks of him not eating. A couple of days ago he was on the rock near the surface of the water when i went to feed him, and he bit at it! but didnt get anything in and then nothing else he still moves away from the food. i got my water tested thats all perfect. he has a female tank mate, i got them both at the same time from the same pet store so i think they grew up together. shes perfectly fine. i try to feed him earthworm but no use. i was told from the pet store to divide them, i did and for about 4 days or more i kept it like that. no use. i put them back together because they seemed to be always looking at each other and sitting side by side with the glass between, it was rather cute.
i really need help!!

What have you tried to feed him?

What did the pet store feed him?

Were they on gravel at the pet store?

What substrate is in your tank now?

When you say you've tested the water & it's perfect - what were the parameters of Ammonia / Nitrite / Nitrate
& what is the tank temperature?

Could you please post a pic of your axie & the tank as well.

Sorry for he barrage of questions - but every little bit if info will help - especially pics.

Re: Almost 3 weeks of not eating

Separate immediately into a Tupperware container. Place the container in a drawer or similar so that the light can't get to him. What were the readings from your tank? Try getting your hands on some black worms or blood worms and hand feed them using some tweezers.

Re: Almost 3 weeks of not eating

This morning I woke up to him upside down at the bottom of the tank. Rest in peace little Poseidon. Thanks everyone for their help. Also I'm getting rid of the rocks I have, he maybe did swallow a rock. Thanks again.

I'm really sorry to hear of your loss :(

Any pebble smaller than their head can be a problem - removing all pebbles is a good idea if you want to open your heart to another axolotl...

RIP Poseidon :(

Re: Almost 3 weeks of not eating

Thanks you guys
I've removed the pebbles, it looks quite ugly but ill get a whole head of nice things to pretty it up abut soon. While I'm here I thought I'd ask... Are my females gills ok? The right side looks like she's losing the red bits... I can't lose her too
I'll post pics in a sec

Could you please answer the questions I asked you in the first reply - that way we can help identify what may be an issue. Do you have a water testing kit & accurate thermometer?

A picture of the female (whole body) & tank would be a great help.

Her gills do look like they have deteriorated some what & the actual skin looks as though temperature or tank water may be causing problems.

Re: Almost 3 weeks of not eating

Nikki, the skin looks very red almost like spooky boo's skin. I'd say that poor water quality could be the culprit here. possibly a hidden worm or poop that has caused a spike.

That's my concern too Olivia - I didn't want to reference Boo, but the red veiny skin makes me shiver to think what Boo went through for months because of the water quality at the shop. Warm tank temperatures played a big part as well!

I'm hoping in this situation if the water is tested & rectified quickly - this little one might stand a chance.
