Hi there,

I've been having a few problems w my axi. He's recently been not eating and we've taken him to the vet. They think it's an illness or possibly cancer as his liver looks distended, however he's been eating normally again for the past month or so. He often comes up for air and floats a little in the tail. But i have recently noticed that one by one, his toes are growing a sort of ball on them and then they apparently fall off leaving his toe 1/2 it's original length! His nails are gone too! I have no idea what would cause this. I had the VET test the water a few months ago and it's all fine and i also treated it with a 7 day liquid from the pet store this past week in case that's the problem and changed 25% of the water... help!!

Hi try posting your question in the Sick Axolotl section, you'll probably get more responses.

they are clear yes, sometimes bloody on the inside...

Perhaps adding a few photos so people can see what is happening.

Hi,
How old is he and what do you feed him on? What was the treatment you got from the shop?

It also best to have your own test kit so you can check if your water is OK. You said your vet tested it months ago. You really need to understand how waste from your axolotl is made safe in the water. I would recommend you search for 'cycling'.

Just wondering how your axolotl is doing? Did you figure out what was happening with its feet?
