Axolotl's with African clawed frogs???

So I have been doing a lot of research and I know everything I read recommends not mixing species but I am curious if anyone here has successfully kept African clawed frogs and axolotls together in the same aquarium. I would love to here your input and advice and about your personal experiences.

Clawed Frogs are known vectors of Chytrid fungus. In addition, the temperature requirements of both species are drastically different.

I have never kept African clawed frogs with axies, but it sounds like a bad idea. arn't African clawed frogs tropical and they get fairly large compaired to African dwarf frogs.
I wouldn't keep any frogs with axies only other axies.

My African Clawed frogs I have now are kept in an unheated tank with large goldfish and the average tank temperature is about 68! They are eating, shedding, and very active and healthy. They(Frogs & Goldfish) seem to work very well as tank mates too! I was just wondering if anyone has tried frogs with axolotl's and if there are any success stories out there! I have a feeling I may just wait until I move this fall and set up an additional tank for them!

Be very carefull with the clawed frogs... They are terribly prolific (with the right conditions) and devour anything that will fit their mouth. We have a problem here in Portugal with released (perhaps escaped) clawed frogs, which are eating many other species that they find in the wild: other anphibians (grown or larva), insects and even fish (grown, larva or even eggs).

I am aware that they can eat everything in site! I got my pair off Craigslist because the woman who had them before me didn't realize they were going to eat her fancy guppies she was breeding! I have big enough fish that the dynamic works out perfect between them!

I understand your curiosity, but with all the horror stories around, I wouldn't want to risk the axies or the frogs - Sounds like the set-up you've got is working, so why not just stick with that?!

P.S. Just because the current temperature is working for the frogs, it doesn't mean it's optimal for them - I have cherry shrimp successfully breeding in a small tank in my kitchen, but it's unheated, so is at the very lowest temperatures recommended for them - I 've got it that way deliberately, so the change in temperature isn't a shock for them when I transfer some to my axie tank. If I had them as pets, rather than just clean-up crew / possible axie snacks, I would make sure the temperature was in the middle of the recommended range instead.

Hi,

please don´t try to keep axies and claw frogs together. It´s not only because of the species mixing disasters.
It´s what Kaysie wrote, the frogs are often infected with Chytrid or with Chlamydia!
You are risking the axies health, when keeping them together and you can´t see the deadly infection!

Thank you for all your input! I was unaware about the disease transfer between the two. I posted for information purposes and found out what I needed to! I will wait until I have the space to expand with my other two aquariums before adding an axolotl to my current collection!

I keep axolotls and ACT and the only time i mix them is when i have a damaged tadpole or froglet which makes a quick snack for the axolotl. As for keeping the adults of each together,I wouldnt even try as i assume it would only lead to one of them trying to eat the other.
