Baby axolotl care

Which is why I said most likely, auntiejude. It's not impossible but it is a little harder. I don't like taking the risk of leaving them hungry for too long at that size. Plus live food usually gets a better growth rate for me.

Beyond that she was asking about chopped up earth worms, totally different from blood worms and black worms.

Well the breeder said he has successfully transitioned them to frozen bloodworm. I was asking about the earthworm because they are live and more nutritious from what I understand. I will keep them on the bloodworm until they get larger I suppose.

Yeah it would probably be best to keep them on that. I'm not sure how easily they could bite off chunks of the worms even small sized. I'm just concerned about a choking hazard.

Thanks for the advice. Frozen bloodworms it is. They are readily available at my lfs.

Finally got my little axie! I have two containers I'm gonna switch back and forth to keep them clean. Should I add an airstone or would that be too much? And conditioned water from the tap is okay right? I have aqua safe plus that I use for my fish tanks.

I'd pick up some live blackworms when its convenient, you can mix it up with live frozen pellet food, etc. My little ones are all on blackworms, but my LFS stocks them, so I guess i'm lucky. My large lotls enjoy them occasionally too. Airstone is really not necessary so long as there is some room for air in their container. Just clean out the containers daily and do 100% water changes with aged dechlorinated water. I fill a few buckets every night and let them age overnight. Use a turkey baster to clean out poop, dead uneaten food, etc. between water changes as you see it. They appreciate a plant to hide under too. Be kind with the lights and try not to spook them too much by your shadow, movement, etc. That's about it really. They start growing quickly.:yin-yang:

Thanks for the info. I don't have blackworms readily available unfortunately. My lfs is real shady about them and their last shipment looked pretty bad. Little one is eating frozen bloodworms and rather well. Not sure how much I'm supposed to feed him but I just feed him until he doesn't seem interested anymore. He's already grown some in the little time I've had him! I can definitely see some back leg buds coming in. It's so exciting!

No need for the black worms, not to mention they'll mostly go to waste if mixed in with the blood worms. While I strongly prefer live foods myself if this one is content on the blood worms it's best to leave it at that. Especially if there's no reliable source for worms.
