Hello!
I am a new axolotl owner, I got this gal on Saturday.
I read online that when she does this it means she has to poop, which makes sense, however I’m concerned because her gills suggest to me that she’s stressed. What should I do? She’s not floating or anything, she’s at the bottom, her legs are just sticking up. (Keep in mind the photo is edited so you can see her better)

She actually just pooped LOL
And yes, the tank is cycled! I’m hoping she’s still just getting used to the place. Yesterday she was already following me around, so hopefully she’ll be less stressed soon.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
