Bad Newt Day

Well, this must be a bad day for me or something
it all started in the morning when i had to get
up early for my basketball game, which we lost by 10
points, and we had the lead most of the game
then i came home and decided to clean out the ol' tank
so i did the normal clean, replaced the filter cartriges, bought some new feeder fish and food.
When i was cleaning out the tank i propted up the tank with two rocks so water could drain out of my tub.
then while the tank was soaking, the rock 5 minutes later punctured a whole in the bottom on my 20 gallon tank, then the heater was left on and the glass shattered everywhere. at that point i was really ticked off.
so i had to go out right away and buy a new tank and other goodies for my newts.
so i think this wasnt one of my best days..

wow, that really sucks man. lesson well learned however. what kind of newts do you have??

I have to firebelly newts and one firebelly toad
all chinese
but theyre just fine, thank god lol

Still not sure why you even have a heater for newts.... Also, why not siphon the water off for changing?

I just want to chime in here and say "Listen to the advise you are being given." If you care about your newts and your toad you need to do the proper research and give the animals the type of enviroment they need to survive. I know the pet store may have housed these species together but long term... IT DOESNT WORK! Just look at the kingsnake forum along with the mixing disasters page. So many people have made the same mistake so you dont have to. The frog needs a totally different enviroment aswell as the newt. Just think of it like someone put you in a glass box at 150F with a Grizzly Bear. If you think you had a bad newt day when this happened, think about how bad it will be when you come home a find half a newt hanging out of a dead toads mouth!

Ok i have to call you out for that last post
one, the newts or toads dont eat anything
than is wider than their mouths, the newts are far bigger than the toad, and even if he did eat the newt, he would so die from the toxitity levels they both carry.

Chris you said "even if he did eat the newt, he would so die from the toxitity levels they both carry."

This is exactly the point being made.
They do not need to eat each other to die either, being confined together they can absorb each others toxins too.

your totaly right,
but my friends newts and toads have happily lived together for over 8 years and going
so there is proof they live together
but where are u suggesting, i put a whole new set up for my toad, and i only have one toad anyways and 2 newts in a 10 gallon tank until i buy my bigger one
so what do i do to keep them safe?

well there is alot of options for you. One is go buy a large tupperware container and put little holes in the top. That will work for either species, but I think the toad likes higher temps so you may need to consider that. Also, you can easily buy a 10-15 gallon aqauarium for 10-15 bucks and use that without any rocks/plants/filters untill you can buy those as well, just remeber to do partial water changes. It is up to you as a owner of both species to do what is safe for them and may not be what you want. Also, the comment "even if he did eat the newt, he would so die from the toxitity levels they both carry." would this be a good outcome for either one?
