Hi guys...I'm bamboozled.
lol.gif

I got some bamboo for my taricha tank. Is bamboo okay? Also, it is too tall for the tank. I already read online and cut it in the proper place. Do you think I should be sure the cut end is under water? (I cut it off from the top).

I also got a pot of pothos finally, and put some in both of my tanks.

The rest is growing happily in a pot to provide me with more clippings later. Does the pothos need to be grounded with anything? In one tank I have it in a little jar with gravel, to keep it where I want it. But in my c.o. tank it is just floating freely. Is this okay?

Thanks in advance.

I am sure that the bamboo will be fine if you put the part that you cut under water!!....and to answer your potho question I think that it is ok to let it float around cause eventually it will attach its self to a rock or piece of wood...
well as I always say GoOd LuCk

I think it will be fine too Christopher, I was just looking for someone really experienced with plants because I wanted to know if the pothos would grow better if it were grounded. It will not attach itsself to rocks if for no other reason than that the roots aren't really touching rocks and they are not floating freely around the tank because they're so big.

Pothos doesn't do well for me when it's free-floating. I usually just put a rock over some of the roots, anchoring it but not planting it. It will grow underwater, but I think it does better when at least some of the leaves are out of the water.

That's just the kind of information I was looking for, Joan. Thanks

Any more ideas on the bamboo? Should some of it be sticking out? Should the open cut remain under water?

well I may not be experienced
enough for pothos but I am pretty good experineced with bamboo because I have a couple canes in my bombina oriental tank and they love 'em but ya the bamboo head should be stuck out of the water because as all plants ,well most plants, need co2 and they cannot get that from underwater really well so just keep at least 2 inches of the bamboo out of the water...

..
for a little side note you may want to keep the bamboo in a little vase cause unless you have few inches of gravel they will DRIFT AWAY>>>

well GoOd LuCk...}

The only drawback I have found with bamboo is that it likes warmth. I keep some in my Cynops ensicauda tank because this tank has minimum 68F in winter. It's probably OK for the now, as we are headed into summer, but if the tank gets cold next winter, you may find yourself de-bamboozled

Lol. Thanks you guys. I will let it stick out of the tank a little (thanks for the info Christopher, it's grounded in gravel though). I will try not to de-bamboozle myself if it starts cooling off in there. My tank stays around 74, warmer than I would like it. I just moved so as soon as I unearth the fan, that will help me cool it 2-3 degrees. Thanks you guys.
