Has anyone ever kept this species I recently acquired a cbb specimen and I am facsinated by it. I have it in a 20gal natural set up with deep topsoil and leaf litter temps between 55 and 70. I’m wondering it should be kept a little warmer. This salamander hasn’t been shy at all and has been feeding well on dusted crickets and small earthworms since day 1.

That is huge for CBB. Who bred them?

No care sheet for this species yet but I have done research on the climate of their natural range in Mexico. Bred by Omni reptiles. I saw the add in the kingsnale classifieds I don’t know how old it is. One of the largest terrestrial salamanders so thats exciting.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
