I got a question regarding freshly morphed Mesotriton alpestris apuanus
I want to know ,based on your experience, what setup work best for this newts
i've read the care sheet on caudata culture and others around the net but im still a bit confused. I know that adults are one of the most acquatic species but im unsure with young animals .
I was thinking on 3 possible setup
1) Terrestrial vivarium with a large water bowl with 1cm water depth
2)1/2 cm water depth with many fake plants , cork and some stones (my favorite)
3)Acquarium (10 /18cm water depth) and a good sized land

thanks in advance

I would recommend something in between (2) and (3). I would say 5-8 cm of water, lots of plants and islands. If the islands are flat and wet, they will probably choose water, at least part of the time.

If you give them deep water and a land area... they will probably choose the land area, and it will be more difficult to feed them.

Are you producing these juveniles yourself? If you are getting them from someone else, then you should try to keep them about the same as the breeder had them.

thanks for the advice's
they are not produced by me, im getting them from a breeder.

And is that legal?

And is that legal?

i have the paper (captive bred certification)for them , and i've talk with autority's to make sure everything was ok so yes its legal.
I respect the animals and the law about them, i love this species to death , i've always admire them in the wild and finally i got some CB, im so happy.
Sure i post some pics later

sorry for the double post
But just to be clear i want to post some pictures of the paper for my animals

That´s alright then. I was under the impression that italian law was more strict.
