Hi,
I have been keeping Dart Frogs for over a decade with great success. My ultimate dream is to start with some Newts and/or Salamanders in the near future. Are there any species that can be kept similar to a Dart Frog? I keep mine in a terrestrial, bioactive set-up at usually between 70-75 degrees F. Their main diet is Drosophila melanogaster with occasional springtails.
Are there any newt and/or salamander species that can be kept in similar conditions with a similar diet? I want to start with something similar to what I am familiar with to get used to their needs and behavior. My biggest concern is keeping the temperatures low enough for species that can't tolerate higher temperatures. I can keep them cool enough in my basement and have a cooler system but I don't have any feasible way to keep them cool in the summer if the power goes out. Any suggestions for what to do for the power issue would be welcome.
I am in PA so I am hoping to connect with someone in PA or in a state close. Thanks for any help.
