This species I have heard is a lot more shy in comparison to the tiger salamander and will not eat by hand

My question is what is the best way to feed them ? Whenever I try a small dish the worms just climb out .

If they are hungry enough maybe they will just eat something in front of them?

If anyone has any advice on feeding a shy salamander it is appreciated

Give them hides that make them feel safe but with openings that are accessible to you. I use drainage pipes buried at an angle into the soil. Once they have established themselves in the hide they will usually face the opening in anticipation of a free meal walking in. You can then drop worms and grubs directly into the mouth of the hide. Once they get the hang of this way of feeding they'll always be waiting and will lunge at practically anything you place there. Mine even take pellets.

Patience is key. In the interim make sure they have access to free roaming food such as earthworms, waxworms, appropriate sized crickets etc.
