Bitten leg

Hi!
One of My small axie's seem to have bitten the other ones arm.
The arm doesn't seem broken, but some skin has been Peeled of and she keeps it close to her body and doesn't use it. But i just fed her so she wants to eat. It's hard to take a picture i'm afraid

I've read alot about this but is there something i should think about?
I'm cycling my tank so i'm doing water changes every day and the water parameters are good. Temperature is at 19c.
Should i give her a salt bath?

No, salt baths are only for fungus. You could giver her a tea bath though.

Try to keep the water cool, point a fan at the surface or something and keep an eye on the leg for any signs of infection or fungus.
Also be on point with your daily water changes to keep the parameters safe or it could make the injury worse.

Axies have an incredible ability to recover - she should be fine.

I agree with Layna, a tea bath would be good.

And you might want to consider why the biting happened and whether you need to separate them- are they just young snappy axies, was it a case of it was feeding time and they just got excited, and do you think it's likely to happen again?

They are young and snappy but not all the time but it happens. And it was long after i fed them. Saw it before i went to bed at night.
I'm a bit confused, many says that they should be kept in pairs, but at the same time that they will bite eachother from time to time.

I have a big tank that's already divided cause i have a big axie at one side and the small ones on the other. For now the hurt one is in a bucket but i don't have any long time solution other than putting her back in the tank.
Is it a worrying behaviour or is it common? I understood that it happens from time to time. Is that wrong ?

Yes, it's true that axolotls can be nippy at times. Whether it's their personality, or because they're hungry, it does happen from time to time. As long as they have enough hides and enough space, as well as enough food, it won't happen as often.

Remember though, that even if they have enough space and enough food, they may still get nippy. If it happens too often, you will have to seriously consider placing the aggressive axolotl in a separate tank.

Axies don't need to be kept in pairs or groups, they can be kept on thier own. The confusion comes when we say they are sociable - we mean they do not generally get territotrial or agressive to others, we don't mean they get lonely on thier own.

Once your injured axie is better she can go back in the tank - if there is no history of fighting and they have enough space it shouldn't be a problem.
