I'm pretty sure that this is just my leucistic lotl gaining pigment as he ages but I'm relatively new to the lotl world. I've noticed over the past few weeks my axolotl, Grindylow, is getting black spots on his gill stalks, they almost look like pieces of sand. I've also noticed small red freckle like marks on his face and torso. He is eating fine, my water parameters are great and he's acting normally. Im just curious as to what these are!

Probably just normal leucistic freckles :)

They're normal colourations :)

My axolotl has the same spots, almost exactly. I guess I didn't notice them before as it seems like they just appeared.

It's normal for Leucys to have black spots, since they still carry dark colouring in with their white genes (hence the dark eyes). The red spots are likely to be the harmless red spots that axxies pick up when they come into contact with tank bacteria (such as on the tank glass or on an ornament), if they're really small. My Leucy boy had them on his tummy a while back, and they sort of came and went. All sounds normal!
