Hi my white axie has just developed black fingertips, is this a sign of anything? Also I have a sponge filter should I get something else instead?

Chris - Dark toe tips on light colored axolotls can be a sign of sexual maturity.
Is your sponge filter working well for you? If it is then keep it, if it isn't doing the job then you may want to look into a different type of filter.

Hi there Chris.
I too was freaked out a bit when i first saw the black finger tips appear.
Just so you know if ever you get a dark coloured axie, they get light finger tips as they are approaching sexual maturity.

Andrew, this isn't necessarily true. I have a 4inch juvenile with white toes, and I'm SURE it's not sexually mature.

They seem to get the coloured toes as they are approaching sexual maturity, not necessarily when they are sexually mature.

Possibly? I've heard of males being mature enough to breed at six months old, not that should though. 18 months is a safe time to wait until if you want to breed your axolotls.
