bloat or eggs?

getting better

Snowhite is doing really well, she has not gotten any bigger in two weeks, however she has hurt her leg on the tunnel in the tank, it looks quite nasty she has taken off a layer of skin and it is quite red looking, shall i start salt baths?? or wait and see how it starts to heal ??. She is not using the leg she has it tucked up against her side, she is eating well and walking on 3 legs. Thankyou.

i would leave her and see how she goes but remove what ever it is that caused the original problem.
if it doesnt seem to be improving in a couple of days pop her back in her holiday home.
the FRIDGE lol.
so pleased she is doing so well hope all goes well in the future.
good luck

Help! don't know what's wrong?

I gave Snowhite a salt bath today for the open wounds on her leg, she has been having them for 4 days. Today after the bath she went nuts!!!! she swam with the top half of her body out of the water swimming madly all around the top of the tank, (like a dolphin walking on it's tail) she did that for over a minute, it really scared me, the she swam to the bottom of the tank, but her gills were flapping every couple seconds and her mouth was open and closing, like she was gasping for oxygen. I have put her in the fridge as i don't know what went wrong???. Does anyone have any ideas ? The salt bath was the same as i do every day. 2 teaspoons salt per 1 litre declor water. Thankyou

Two days now

Snowhite has been in the fridge for two days, so this afternoon i took her out and put her in the tank to see how she was doing. Every few minutes she was swimming to the top of the tank to get oxygen, so i have put her back in the fridge. The fridge temp is 8c is that ok? . As no one has sent a reply to my last post i will ask the question again, could the salt bath have caused what ever is wrong with Snowhite? I am at a loss as to why this has happened as she was doing extremly well till she hurt her leg,(She can't use it, she tucks it up along her side.) and then i started the salt baths to help with the open wounds. Her leg looks no worse or better, can't see any fungus, but the last salt bath she had after it was over, she went mental!!. Any help is greatly appreciated. If i need to leave her in the fridge, how long do i leave her there for?. I will do water changes each day with declor water. Why does she seem to be gasping for more oxygen all the time? Thankyou.

i would just leave her in the fridge for a few days before trying her again.
she has obviously become distressed and needs to calm back down.
keeping her in the fridge wont hurt her will only help.
good luck

The salt bath may have hurt her with this open wound, salt maybe quite painful.
I usually do not do any salt baths as long as there is no fungus present because I don't see in which way this should help.

Sorry, I can't give you an answer on your fridge-question, I normally just put them in clean water if I encounter any problems.

I wouldn't recommend salt baths for open wounds. If you don't see any signs of infection, salt baths aren't necessary.

If she's doing well in the tank, eating, not deteriorating or showing signs of infection, I would leave her there.

didnt do well in tank

Thankyou to all that offered advice. Snowhite is still in the fridge as she wasn't doing well in the tank, coming up to the top of the tank to gulp oxygen, she is having a hard time with her balance. i think it might be as she is standing on 3 legs. She isn't eating, all she does is stand at the bottom, until she swims to the top for oxygen. Is swimming to the top so often normal ? i have very rarely seen mine to that, not to the extent Snowhite does it. I feel so bad thinking that i have done her harm with the salt baths. Why does she continue to need more oxygen??. and constantly flapping her gills? Thankyou

9 days later

Snowhite seems to be her old self again. she doesn't gasp for air or flap her gills or constantly swimming to the top anymore. She is eating well and responds when i walk past her recovery tank. This morning i put her back with her friends in the big tank, (so far so good) i will keep a close eye on her. There is no sign of fungus or infection on her sore leg, although she still doesn't use it,she still has it tucked up by her side, it must be painful for her. I will keep watching for any fungus etc. Thankyou.

so very pleased to hear she is doing so well il keep my fingers crossed for a full recovery
