Hi all!
I've included some photos of my leucistic that has developed quite the belly in the last 10 hours. She hasn't eaten in about 2 days and only had two tubifex worms that day. She is still swimming around and going to the top but I'm VERY concerned about her.

My water chemistry is fine, water at 68 Fahrenheit, and she looks ok otherwise. She/he is roughly 5 months old I don't know if it's possibly for it to be eggs.

The photos with a 1. Are yesterday, 2. Are today.

Thank yo y'all in advance.

Recent photos -- she is normally quite small and underweight due to being a very picky eater

So Ponyo didn't make it through the night. At this point I'm hoping someone can identify what went wrong. I've included photos post passing -- within hours red splotches developed on her tail but the swelling also got worse as the evening passed. Today she also had dirty feet but that also developed over the last 24 hours.. She has been refusing food or accepting one small worm a day for about two - three weeks. I'm leaning towards liver or kidney failure and she has not been well and healthy since we got her, we were hoping that we would finally find a food that she would be interested in and eat and after a fridge session she peeked up a bit for a few days and then declined again.

Anyways, ant and all ideas are welcome as I have another very healthy guy who was with her up until about 8 hours ago when I moved her to a secondary tank for quarantine. These images are a bit sad and graphic.. I sincerely apologize. :'(

Sorry to hear about your loss! My axolotl, Tabi passed away this Christmas Eve due to parasites, he acted the same way in refusing food. I tried everything, hoping he was just picky. Not the case, sadly...He was floating and had issues sinking 8 hours before he was found dead in a quarantine tub(that I put him in to lessen stress from floating, he had no tank mates that can be endangered). Did Ponyo have issues sinking that you observed? Tabi didn't have bloating, so I don't think they were the same cause, but I found the lack of eating and the fact that the water chemistries were fair in both our cases as enough reason to tell you about my experience.

Bloating is common in kidney/liver failure, but I've seen posts where axolotls were EXTREMELY bloated before passing away. One post featured a wild type that looked like he inhaled a football!

They don't have to bloat hugely to signify kidney or liver failure. The red splotches also signifies that, so I'd definitely lean towards one of the two being the cause. Sorry for your loss.
