Hello, i'm new here, i rescued my axie Darnell from someone yesterday, he was in a real bad state, like a balloon with arms and legs, i took him to the vets 1st thing this morning and she said he has kidney failure and the swelling is a fluid build up, after draining and testing 100ml from him he is still pretty bloated but the vet didn't want to risk draining any more, i just wondered if any one on here has any ideas of anything else i can do to get the fluid out?
1st pic is before the drain, 2nd pic is after

i'm a bit more worried bout Darnell today, he hasn't pooped since he was at the vets yesterday, n he isn't moving or doing anything apart from moving his head a little bit n twitching his gills, he also seems to be a bit less pink then he was when i got him on Sunday, but i don't know if he was that pink because of being so swollen and stressed, i hope he is going to be OK :( i'm going to see if he will eat later

My axolotl go through spells of not moving much :D. Your leucistic axolotl should look more white than pink, when they look pink its could mean a number of things, like they have been very active or they are reacting to something like ammonia in the water. If he is looking white I suspect he is just more relaxed. What colour are his gills at the moment?
I wouldn't worry about him not pooping. What are you feeding him at the moment and what temperature is his water?

hes eating frozen bloodworm at the mo, hes woke up a bit since and had a little walk around, i saw him yawn :) his gills are pink, they were really bright yesterday but have lightened up today. thank you for reassuring me. i will be taking some photo's of him to the aquatic shop later on today to see if they can help, i haven't got a thermometer yet but will pick one up while im out this afternoon, ive kept the heating off in the room he is in tho so the water should be ok

Please don't add anything to the tank till you have checked here its ok. Some medications sold are not recommended for axolotl. Do a search using the link towards the top of the page in the green bar.

don't worry i will not be adding anything until i know its 100% safe, i have read about things going wrong with meds from shops. Darnell is looking a bit better now and was awake for quite a while earlier. but still very bloated :( i took a pic of him from the top so you can have a better idea of how big he is. Thanks for all your help :)

i feel really bad for him, i don't know what to do :( hes struggling to swim about and cant seem to control his back end. keeps toppling from side to side kind of thing. i know he's not cure-able and i will just have to keep getting him drained at the vets, he seems to have swollen again though almost instantly. i don't want him to suffer :'(

As much as i love him, im considering taking him to the vets to go to axie heaven. its horrible to see him like this knowing i cant do anything for him...

Oh dear . I think if he was mine, and he had swollen up again I would let him go to the happy axolotl heaven. He was very lucky he came to you as you tried to get him help.

ive had a second opinion on Darnell after a slight improvement, ive been told the fluid could be because of nutritional deficiencies, he has only ever been fed on bloodworms, i was told to try him with some mussels so i got a bag and im going to try him tomorrow, also going to see if the vet will drain him some more so he can get about a bit easier. he seems to be slowly getting better :)

I agree with sillymoogle7 . Could you let us know where your vet is as I am sure others may be interested to know .
