My female fire salamander has swollen up moderately large over a couple of days. A couple of weeks before, (about 2) she gave birth to 6 little ones. I'm not sure if she is bloated, or if she is swelling up because she won't give birth. Nothing has changed, same diet, same enclosure, and she acts completely healthy and normal. My little male who lives with her is perfectly fine... Help?

I'm not convinced that it's bloat, although that is possible. Her skin doesn't look stretched-tight, as it often does in bloat. I would suggest leaving her as calm and quiet and undisturbed as possible. Maybe even consider taking out the male for a while. If she has more offspring on the way, she may be waiting for a quiet place to deposit them.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
