Hi everyone, I have had problems with ammonia in my tank which is still sitting at 1.0 and hence my axolotls were not eating and losing a lot of weight. For the past couple of weeks I have had them in buckets and doing daily water changes and waiting for the tank to write itself. The sickest one, Gondwana, is doing really well and has found her appetite again but Laurasia did not like the bucket and went around and around the bucket and has scraped alone her tail and now there are little blood spots along it. She was moved into the fridge into a 2 l container where I still change the water everyday but now her appetite has gone and her tailed hasnt healed. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I could do to help it heal.

I will put some pictures up her, the rip in her tail she has always had since I got her by the way!

Thanks

Hi Lydz,

The only thing you can really do now is to continue fridging your axie while sorting out your tank issues. Just continue to offer food while fridging. Live wriggly worms can stimulate the appetite so try live earthworms, blackworms etc.

Remember to do 100% daily water changes while fridging. The water quality is of utmost importance to prevent secondary infection. Provided that the water quality is good and nutritional aspect is well met, the wound should heal in no time.

Cheers
