blue axolotls?

There are no such things as blue ones. There are Melanoid ones though which are black with black eyes
 
is it possible the "blue axoltols" are Axanthic?
 
i would look at that picture and say it isnt an axolotl, if you look at the profile of the head, and the very arched back, i would say either a hybrid or a larvae of another species

The closest I have seen to blue are gray ones. I have two types of melanoid. Some are dark black and some are sort of gray looking. I've heard them called blue but they look gray to me.
 
i agree with carpy, it does not look like a true axolotl.

Thanks for the input, I guess I have some pale melanic juvies then! They look just like the ones in the Japenese pictures, though 1 or 2 are darker. One even has the same arched back. I had read somewhere that melanic seems to be linked with scoliosis, (I think in Peter Scott's book) so I wonder if that would account for it?

I beleive in axanthic axolotls there is a survival issuse with them. I wonder if anyone has been able to work arround the draw backs and produces axanthics(an in the matter of fact xanthic) that can survive. If that has happend, that can possibly explain blue axolotls. Anyone know good articles or jounals that discuss axanthic and xanthic axolotls?

axanthic makes things look blue, google image search"axanthic" you will find lots of apics of snakes.

But as other people say, sometimes melanistic have been refered to as "blue"
