Are they fat, Joáo?

How do you know when your axie is over weight?

axies have flat belie, so when they look round, sorry Cynthia it could be from the picture, they are fat, if your axie look fat just stop feeding him for a week or two.
when axies are fat they tend to get sick more often.

i dont think Cynthias axies are fat at all. my male leucistic looks like hers and isnt fat because he only gets fed twice a week on earthworms. plus Cynthia has axies for many years and would do something if her axies were fat

Does Elsa look fat?

I've been feeding her a lot more since I started on the worms...

João - Adult female axolotls do not have flat bellies unless they have just laid eggs, and sometimes not even then.

Not feeding a female axolotl that is round with eggs "for a week or two" will do nothing to reduce the roundness.

i dont think she looks fat at all. id say she was normal axie weight :D

Cynthia your axies are so cute like that on those tube thingys

Where did the names BlingBling and Jude come from?

Thanks Hayley. Jude is named after the man who sent her to me**, and Blingbling is "golden" hence the name.

**Now that I am caffeinated I must edit the above post. Jude is named after the man who sent me Blingbling. I was going to send Jude (the axolotl) to Jude (the man) but the weather got too hot and Jude (the axolotl) got big enough that I didn't feel comfortable shipping her.

as I said before it could be from the picture. And I know that female axies don´t have flat bellies, what I meant to say is that they look too round to me. But not when you see axies from above but from the side.

Some female axies can get quite "fat" looking when they are filled with eggs. But axolotls are suppose to be kind of round or "fat" salamanders. Cynthia's axolotls look very healthy and happy to me. Great pictures Cynthia!

I agree, they look happy & healthy to me

their home looks good & is kept clean.
Witholding food from an axolotl, to slim it down, for the length of time you wrote Joao is considered neglectful - the RSPCA.
What sicknesses do you think "fat" axolotls are affected by?

Claire - you said "plus Cynthia has axies for many years and would do something if her axies were fat"

I have been thinking about that...
I can't say that I have ever seen a "fat" axolotl. I have seen females very round with eggs and well fed animals that have rounded bodies (I believe this to be a normal state).

I am not sure that axolotls can even get "fat" unless they had some genetic predisposition/problem or something like that.

If I did have a "fat" axolotl I would feed it no differently than the others. If one animal can become "fat" on the same amounts of food the other "non fat" animals are eating.... it's just meant to be fat. I don't think axolotl treadmills are in order.

Awww, they're so cute! I love how they're posing! They did that on purpose, Cynthia! They were posing so you would take thier picture. Looks like they're acting out a play or something lol. Very nice ^_^
instead of the play "CATS" It's "AXOLOTLS"

Hayley - I got a good picture of Narkezy tonight. He is getting his "man stuff". He is just over 9 inches now, and bigger than Jude. I got them April 16, 2005 as fingerlings.

Here he is next to Jude

Pea is the smallest of the 3

And Doodad is hiding but he pretty much the same size as Narkezy
