Is there anything else in the tank with him Lauren? Looks like something has been biting pieces from his tail.
Have you checked temp & condition - water, ph., etc?

He's alone and the tank is cycled. The bite-mark was there when he arrived the week before last. He was in a large tank with all his siblings at the supplier, so it was unavoidable. My leucistic (from the same large tank) arrived last week missing half his gills and a leg! So I guess my wildtype was one of the top-dogs in that little pond.

Cynthia - He's fine now. I should have clarified in the original post that he ended up like that after a botched landing. His tail fell down over the course of an hour until he was level again.

when they are juvi they tend to have more trouble getting the air that they gulp out.

mine just floats at about 1cm from bottem sometimes and he jsut stares at me when im in da room
