Brand New Buddy

Last Wednesday I received my Crocodile Newt from backwater reptiles; I was expecting the T. shanjing but I was completely surprised when I got Tylototriton cf. kweichowensis! I was shocked to see how huge she is after coming out of the plastic bowl! I've had a hard time trying to find what she eats (turns out she really likes nightcrawlers but they're pretty hard to find) I've stuck with Canadian nightcrawlers cause they're easier to find from the local bait shop (feel kinda bad chopping bits off from Mr. Worm). The other thing I'm kinda having a problem with is finding the right setup for her. I started with 50/50 when I first got her, but it turns out she wasn't too fond of it. I now have her in an 80/20 setup with more land than water. I know there isn't too much info about cf. kweichowensis but any info would help out immensely; she's really cool and I'm very blessed to have her as my new pet after many years of not having newts. Well, I have a breeding pair of these personally and I love them to bit, just like all Tylo's lol In all honesty, this subspecies has mixed reviews about the whole Water land thing, mine have periods where they just sit in the water, and other times where they dont want to go near it! lol
Any chance you could upload a photo of the entire Tylo at all? just from that angle i swear thats T.kweichowensis and not cf.kweichowensis

It's likely cf. The pet trade in North America has been supplied primarily with T.cf.kweichowensis for the last several years. I've seen it listed as T.shanjing, T.verrucosus, and T.kweichowensis, but it all ends up being the same. While you might luck out and get something correctly identified, the bulk [cheap] trade is this species right now, and to get anything else, expect to make a special order and pay more. This species has some variability. I have seen a couple almost-striped animals, and one which was almost entirely black [sadly, I didn't photograph or purchase that particular one].

Haha no worries Give me a message if you ever need any help And It's a T.cf.kweichowensis but it's a really great and un-usual specimen! lol Really like the look of this one!
