Hi,

this is my first Notophthalmus larva. The female laid the eggs at least 13 days ago. I've found the first eggs on april 10th, but of course some could be a few days older.

Cheers,
Thomas

The first foreleg.

The older have start feed yesterday. At least I've seen the typical orange nauplii belly yesterday the first time.

Great news Thomas. I really love raising Notophthalmus, though we're having louisianensis instead of viridescens. I'm raising them a bit like Triturus sp. Hope you raise a lot of them.

Thanks Niels. I have a few losses, but still 45 larvaes. The biggest are round about 15 mm and I'm awaiting the hind legs.

I've seen today that the hind legs start to grow.

So far only three at the moment, but I have 36 younger with fore and hind legs.

Few days ago I've found two very tiny larvae only with forelegs in the parents tank. I never feed them, so they had to go their way on their own...No Idea how many are there, one male is at the moment still in tank, don't wanna leave the water.

Cheers,
Thomas

I think the first leave the water today, at least tomorrow. Yesterday evening I've seen the first time the biggest larvae snaps air with the mouth. The seam is nearly gone and the gills have reduced nearly complete. Yesterday evening they were good to see, now they are very small.

The pics on the left and middle are from yesterday, the right pic is from today

I love watching this species morph. I may go to PetCo on Sunday and take advantage of their $1/gallon aquarium sale and set up 2 or 3 more tanks.

They have been my favorite ever since seeing them in the wild in South Carolina.
