Question: Breeding Peninsula Newts

Hey guys! Not sure if it was posted somewhere else but I am looking for some personal advice; tips and tricks on how to breed Peninsula Newts successfully! I have 18 Peninsula Newts and haven’t had any success breeding, I figured with that many I shouldn’t have any problems but I haven’t noticed anything. I have had them for roughly 6 months.

I have viewed the care guides on breeding with not much luck, Just looking for people who have any tips or tricks on breeding them. Any secrets i need to know? Thanks so much

Your tank needs to be more like a habitat the newt would live in the wild. A healthy, happy newt is a breeding newt when the season comes around. Your tank, while pretty looking, is not very newt-friendly. You need lots of floating vegetation. Newts want to be able to rest near the surface. I'm talking loads of it. Think of a Florida plant-choked pond.

Plus you've only had them six months. THey might not want to breed until the spring. OR anytime after the new year, really.

Mine are in breeding conditions right now. Are the fishes neon tetras? If so and if you have the right temperatures for the fishes, I wouldn't wondering why your newts doesn't breed...

Ah ok, so it's all unheated? I can post a pic of my peninsula tank as "inspiration". I keep mine the whole year in my room only with a bit cooler temps in winter. And they lay eggs even when the males aren't in visible breeding conditions.

Here is a quick shot in bad quality, but you can see how it looks. Lots of elodea and some leafs on the bottom. The newts love to search for food between the leaves.

Yes unheated. I just have two sponge filters in there. Where did you get those plants? I have hornwort in there, anarchis and water lettuce that they like to hang on
