Hi, i was basically wondering when fire bellied newts (chinese and japanese) have theire breeding season, I saw in my local pond in brighton a newt tail fanning another newt so i was wondering when My newts would enter that time phrase? Thanks in advance:happy:

I think it is about march to late july/early august.

Breeding season for the firebelly newts is springtime. Newts in captivity will sometimes be a bit mixed up and lay eggs at other times of the year, but most reproduction takes place in spring. To breed, they need to be consistently well-fed and have a cold period during the wintertime. Your avatar photo shows a shallow-water setup, is that where they live?

Ok Thanks, No they live in a bigger Tank, That was a picture of my old tank which was smaller, tehy have lots mroe water, spend most time in teh water aswell althuogh they do ahve access to land

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
