Question: Brown stripe appearing and disappearing?

So i was wondering about this stripe that appears and disappears on my newts? It is this brown stripe that goes down the center of their belly and tail, it may be a little scattered but is usually strait. But it comes and goes, it is like this for all my rough skinned newts ( T. ganulosa ). Anyone know what it is?
