I'm looking for a salamander for my daughter. One that doesn't get too big, and is colorful. Any suggestions on reputable online stores?

Re: WTB salamander

WTB salamander for my daughter. One that doesn't get too big, and is colorful. Any suggestions on reputable online stores?

It depends on what you can provide.
  • Temperature, Aquatic vs Terrestrial, How big the tank/tub is, etc. And most, if not all of salamanders need to be fed live worms, chopped, or whole depending on size(nightcrawler/earthworm).

As for reputable places to buy, there is a For Sale Section that I will link in this post, ads for various salamanders/newts from people on this site are posted there, all of the animals that are offered for money are Captive Bred.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
