Buying from a pet store?

Hi all. I'm thinking about two different guys here, tiger salamanders and axolotl. The tiger is what I was looking for first, and came across a few axies at a reptile store in the cities. beautiful, I just wanted to get them right then and there. But, it's been a few months since then I've been reading a bit here and there on them trying to decide if maybe an axie might be right for me rather than a Tiger since those seem hard to come by. My question is that, at this store there where three white ones and each cost $45. Is that an outrageous price or reasonable for the little guys? I would certainly pay it, I just don't want to get ripped off if I decide the time is right for an axie. If I do get one, it won't be for quite a while (months at least.)
That was the only store so far I've come across. Would buying straight from a breeder be more reliable?

I have 3 one was 30.00 the other two were 24.00 each plus shipping.

Emily, your best bet would be to place a want ad here, or browse the 'for sale' section, as I'm sure you'll find one cheaper, and would have more color options.

That being said, my local pet shop occasionally sells them, and charges $50 a piece for them.

really? here in WI, the most I've seen them go for at the pet shops is $20 even...

I agree with Kaysie... check out the four sale or trade section of the forum. Even if you have to pay shipping, I'm willing to bet you'd get a better deal and definately more options.
