This one was left in the tank with its parents (and other adults) and for whatever reason is more than twice as large as other larvae in the same tank, as well as those taken out of the tank and raised separately.

Hi Tim,

Nice photos

. What size are these guys? What are you feeding them on?

Hi John. I'll have to measure them and get back to you. I've got several batches going, all different sizes. The ones that were left in the tank with the adults feed on frozen bloodworm and whatever else they can catch that lives in there (it has water and soil from the natural habitat). The others I feed on live tubifex and occasionally frozen bloodworm. I don't like using tubifex in my adult tanks for fear of introducing diseases or parasites.

Here's what I mean by all different sizes

I can't say for sure if the 2 larvae in this pic are popei or nominates as it's a mixed larvae tank. The ones in the pics posted previously in this thread are all popei. The big one here is about 5.5cm and the small one is about 2.25 cm.

Thanks guys. There are so many larvae this time of the year that there are almost always nice shots to be had ;)

I should also add that it illustrates one very important technique for animal photography - get the eyes in focus.

Thanks John, that's my favorite one too ;)

Today's edition:

I was about to remove this worm as I thought it was too big:

Regarding the third pic up, I should also add that it illustrates one very important technique for animal photography - clean the glass first
