C.o larvae disaster. help...

Well i experimented some loses because of cannibalism. Also some seemed to die because of lack of food. I trusted them to survive in the adult´s tank, but aparently it run out of micro food, and i didn´t notice it until it was too late for some of them. Then of the few left...all but two died the other day. So now only the two bigger ones are alive. In the past three weeks or so (since i rescued the ones left from the adult´s tank)i´ve been feeding them with artemia because that was the only thing they would eat. But now they are eating very little...i think one of them hasn´t eaten at all in about 4 days. I´ve tried bloodworms, small whiteworms and mosquitos...but they won´t eat. I would hate losing them too...

If they won't eat live whiteworms, then that is very strange. Since you removed them from the adults' tank, what kind of setup do they have?

Just a small plastic container with nothing but water....they seemed to have some trouble hunting artemia in a bigger container so i put them in a smaller one and they were fine....

Hello Rodrigo . If my memory serves me correctly. I think your larva hatched around the same time as mine. If that is the case they may be morphing and some may have drowned if they didn't have land to crawl out on. I am just throwing this out there, but maybe provide some land areas. They also will stop eating for abit after they morph - at least mine did for about a week some even two.

They aren´t....:S They are still small. Apparently when i put all the larvae in the adult´s tank i made a mistake. The three that hatched there did great until then. But with all the larvae together the food sources run out quickly. By the time i noticed it the smaller larvae that hadn´t grown at all were starving and it was too late for them. The bigger ones had survived because of cannibalism but still hadn´t grown much and were starving too. Being my first time i just took for granted they would be fine.
Anyway i got one to eat tiny pieces of tiny earthworms( went out yesterday to get some). The other one looks interested but i think i need even smaller pieces for that one. Thanks for the help...i hope to be able to raise these two.

Interesting, I have some 5 day old larvaes which are very tiny. I fed them small daphnia, and I have a culture of artemia going on.

Any word of advice? How did you guys take care of them?

I know I have been raising a different species than you, but my Cp larvae seemed to benefit by eating more and growing well when I had plenty of hiding places for them. Maybe you could add some plants or something to offer them cover?

I gave them some tiny enchytrae today and they seem to like it. My artemia always seem to die off after a few days...

Thanks Jen I´ll try adding some java moss for cover.
My artemia lasted for about 3 days.Then it died and polluted the water....i think i lost a couple of larvae because of water quality. Anyway, i think as long as you provide apropiate food and are very very careful about water quality, you should have no problems Coen. I commited a lot of mistakes and also had a lot of bad luck...but still these two could make it n_n
