These pics are all of the same individual, which has fairly unique coloration for a C.p...though I keep several others that are somewhat similar:

Whoa, freaky colors man! I think the newt's mamma shoulda layed off the stuff when she was expecting! Pretty nice rainbow you got there though.

thats a really nice colouration are you sure it is'nt in breeding mode?

Yes, judging from its tail coloration, it seems to be in the mode, in the mood. No worries, it's in there with plenty of females, including some spotted ones. Would be interesting to see if a spotted male and a spotted female produce spotted young.

good look withh breeding them tim.
lets just hope you get some eggs.

Mark

Thanks Mark. I noticed that Matthew had posted some pics of his spotted C.p some months back at:

His seem to me also to be of the Sasayama race, while my little guy above is probably Hiroshima race. I also have a spotted one of the Tohoku race (location known), so this spotting does not appear to be unique to any one race. Also, the spots are more prominent at breeding time, though they don't disappear entirely at other times, at least from my amateur observations.

Are you going to keep all of the babies if some eggs hatch? Would you consider selling some? I mean, that is of course after the little guy "gets his freak on" so to speak. I hope he's got it in him!

Getting eggs from them would sure be nice, but I'm already notorious

for my failure to get my C.p "colony" to breed. I've had much better luck with C.ensicauda. This winter though, I'll try to arrange a cooling period for my C.p to stimulate breeding. As for selling any...wouldn't dream of it!...though I'd certainly consider giving some eggs away when the time comes, if it ever comes

If you're looking for C.p morphs or adults though, it's probably best to find somebody in the U.S. because of the hassle involved at Customs.

Duh! I keep forgetting you're in Japan Tim.

I'll try to find someone in the US, but I don't think I'll ever find anyone who has ones with a color like yours.
