Hello. Recently I had an issue with my API Master Test Kit Tubes (I wasn't cleaning them properly and was getting impossible results, but I fixed it) and it got me thinking.

If you have bad tank parameters (for instance, an ammonia spike), is there a possibility your axolotl won't show any signs of stress? Is there a correlation between axolotls having no stress and good tank parameters?

Most places I've looked just say that stress can be a sign of bad parameters, so I was just curious if the opposite was true too.

You can have poor water quality without axolotls showing stress behaviour, the first sign maybe a pinkening of light axolotl, followed by deterioration of gill filaments, slime coat shedding and fungus. Early signs are harder to detect in dark axolotl which is why i prefer to keep the odd light morph in with wild types.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
