Looks to be a 20 gallon long tank to me. If the axolotl are young I say yes. If they are adults you may be pushing it.

A 40 gal should be able to have 3 easy. I wouldn't hesitate to have a 4th in a 40 gal.

Good luck

4 adults in a 40 gal tank sounds pretty cramped to me. Depending on how big yours get you might could get away with 3 adults in the tank.

You can get away with three, but I wouldn't add any more than that.

The new addition will be increasing the bioload of the tank, so you'll need to keep a close watch on your water parameters, and do more frequent partial water changes accordingly.

I'd recommend more hides, as well.

And don't forget to quarantine any new additions for at least 30 days before introducing them to your present axolotls.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
