Can anyone identify this?

Was just about to do a water change today and I saw my wild-type sitting on something, he moved and I saw this strange green fuzz.

It wasn't there 5 minutes before that so I can only assume he passed it. Anyone have any ideas? He's only fed on worms and the occasional bloodworm when we run out.

Maybe some algae that was slowly growing in a hidden away spot and got transported there by an axolotl moving around?

Aye, its algae, and as previously stated it was hidden from view and disturbed by currents from your (or your critter's) activity.


This is a good early warning that that you need to either remove some tank decorations where filth gets stuck, or be more vigilant with the turkey baster/siphon. Large accumulations will lead to serious water chemistry crashes.

I did a full clean on the tank today (will wait a few days to replace the water as it was just changed), removed the rocks and plants and could find no other signs of algae? It has me confused because it appeared out of nowhere and actually since that day, the little guy is looking kind of swollen. That's probably a coincidence though..
