no, don't mix them together

Have you had a chance to read the information from Axolotls: The Fascinating Mexican Axolotl and the Tiger Salamander It reviews the housing, water, and feeding needs that your new axolotl will have. Loads of people are here to answer further questions as they arise. Good luck with your new axolotl. (And no. It cannot share a tank with a fire bellied newt.) Actually, there's also some great info on this site under the caudata culture articles that will talk about the care and maintenance of firebellied newts, if that's any help.

~Check out the species-mixing disasters article on the Caudata Culture site.

Haha I think Water Dawg has gotten the message. :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
