Hello everyone,

I tried joining the facebook group for Canadian keepers but somehow was unsuccessful. I am a bit tired of waiting so I decided to post this and ask. Is anyone able to list the names of any breeders within Canada that have salamanders and where I can find them? In Nova Scotia only 4 species are legal to buy, sell and bring into the province. Those 4 species include Ambystoma tigrinum, Necturus maculosus, Cynops orientalis, and Taricho torosa. The stupid thing about this is that literally nobody seems to have these species advertised on a basic web search for Canadian breeders, and so I need the help and input of other Canadians who know better. People must breed or sell them somewhere, or else they wouldn't be listed as legal to acquire. I would greatly appreciate any help and advice to lead me in the right direction for finding any of these stupidly decided "safe" species.

Thank you in advance.

Can you import them from the US into Canada? US has a ban on importing but not exporting. You might get in touch with Northern Lights importing and see if she can bring them in with a snake shipment or something for you for a fee.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that might be more trouble than it's worth. Canada doesn't have a strict 100% ban, but it might as well be just as tough importing them. And any fees associated are too expensive for just a couple of salamanders. It would be different if I was a large-scale hobbyist looking to get a large amount.

Bummer on the salamanders. On the positive side there's a lot of cool stuff to see even driving from NS. We went to Forillion Park one time to see black bears and moose, rein deer at Gespise and more moose, and lots of ocean life at Grand Maanan.
