Heyy! Does anybody know any trustable Canadian axolotl breeders? I’m very interested in getting a pair of Axolotls.

There used to be a guy who frequented here from somewhere in Anglophone Canada but given that another individual on this forum ordered some and the Canadian mail service failed in their duty, I would be hesitant to recommend anything that wasn't local. Do you have any aquarium stores near you? Even if they're an hour drive, they may be able to order you some.

Scrap that, just saw you are in B.C. All Ambystoma species (this includes Axolotls) are illegal to possess in B.C as they are protected under the B.C Wildlife Act.

Ah that sucks, but thank you for telling me though!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
