Canister filters are great, and can be placed on the ground. They also are silent

Unless you have the spray bar above the water, then you can hear the water lol.

i was looking at some on the ebay pritty cheap at around $80au but they do 1500lph, is that alot?

depends on the size of your tank Stipe, I just ended up getting a 1000lph one for a 230L tank and it's ideal for what i need. The guy at the pet store said that lph are generally worked out by the amount of water multiplied by 4 (i'm not sure how accurate that is but it worked for my tank).
