Catching bugs?

How safe are captured bugs as an occasional treat in addition to a regular diet? Can I feed the occasional daddylonglegs from behind the cupboard to my newt or salamander? The aphids from the rosebushes? Houseflys? I know earthworms can carry pesticides.
 
No, for the same reason as earthworms, it is too risky that an outside bug may be carrying a pathogen or poison, AND you maynot know if your species is not allergic to the bug you are feeding as most of the species kept are not indiginous(spelling?) I would just buy a cricket or two, or maybe some new kinda worm or something from a petstore, then you know that the bugs are breed for food and have not come into contact with an unwanted source.

As long as you collect from a pesticide/pollution free area, it is perfectly fine to feed wild caught invertebrates to your salamanders. They are usually more nutritious than feeders you buy from a store also. Good feeders from a safe area could be small slugs, worms, termites, etc.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
