Did it look a little like the salamander in this photo? CalPhotos: Plethodon cinereus; Eastern Red-backed Salamander

Eurycea do have yellow/orange backs but I've never seen one with a bright blue belly. Red backed salamanders, Plethodon cinereus, occasionally have blue flecked bellies and yellowish backs. Not sure I'd describe it as bright blue however.

the chat room has been well populated at around midnight central time or so. There's been a whole assortment of shady characters of the marsupial persuasion and some hearty exchange of french vocabulary. Topics have ranged from creationism to how best to cook a baby. Newts get mentioned occasionally. No one has been banned yet but then we all instantly straighten up when one of the mods drops in, which is not very often.

bring some popcorn and your turkey baster!
Run, guys! We've been ratted out!

I KNEW she was just listening and taking notes and the whole "bad connection" thing was a scam!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
