Hello i have 2 healthy firebellys & want to get a few more but i dont trust getting them from a petshop as ive had 1 die from what looked like a horrible bactetia infection & i have another 2right now in quarintine bc they have signs of flesh eating bactria im using antibiotics but dont have high hopes.
Its horrible and sad to watch. Im just trying to make them as comfortable as possible.

I dont want to buy anymore newts from petstores... any suggestions?

im from chicago too....i bought like 9 firebelly newts from a petshop and one ended up dying because of a sick foot but the rest are doing well and are getting fat :) they were all skinny and in a horrible habitat...its hard to find newts now in chicago...are you aware of the reptile swap in wheaton twice a month?

I'm sorry to hear about your newts... My first newt was a pet store buy as well and was a quick death. Best of luck to you.

In regards to finding a breeder, finding one near your area removes the shipping cost, but there are plenty of reputable breeders here who can ship you perfectly healthy ones with little risk to the health of the newt.

Edit: Seems like jewett is the only recent one offering them for sale. http://www.caudata.org/forum/f49-ad...y-trade/f65-fs-usa/86191-cb-h-orientalis.html

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
