Chinese Aglae eater vs other tank mates

One other note on SAE; as they grow older they pretty much stop eating algae. Mine just hang out under the fish feeder when it is time for it to feed them. They also enjoyed the zucchini squash slices I used to put in for my farlowella.

Pamela - I agree they are underrated and under appreciated. Its hard to become popular when most pet stores can't seem to label them correctly, and they don't have flashy colors. But they always make me smile.

I have tank mates in with my adult axies.

2 Golden Snails and 2 Bristlenose Catfish.

They have been in there for sometime now and i have never had a problem with them attacking the axies or disease etc.

Like most things, some axies may attack them some may not. Snails or Bristlenose catfish may attack axies, some may not.

I read someplace that one axolotl would attack (in a cannibalistic way) another axolotl. Is this true? Has anyone had any experience with this? I haven't gotten another axolotl to put in with the one I have b/c I was affraid of this. I would like something to keep my axolotl company (he seems bored

) but was affraid to get anything, I had a pleco 'eat' at my axolotl (he's ok now though)

Sarah - There is a recent picture in the gallery of an axolotl with a badly bitten leg. The damage was done by another axolotl.

And in a recent post someone said they had 3 axolotls and the larger one attacked the smaller ones and did a lot of damage.

Young axolotls are very nippy and bite everything.
Some larger axolotls may not appreciate smaller tank mates or even tank mates their own size.

Your best bet for trying to add a new axolotl would probably be finding one that is close in size as the one you have. Or grow one up to the same size before you put them together. Make sure they have enough space, good hiding places and are well fed.
