Chinese fire belly newt breeding?

Hello, I have 2 fire belly newts. (not sure of there gender) I added java moss to their tank a couple weeks ago. I am finding in the java moss egg like figures. They look exactly like the one on the profile for fire belly newts. My question: I never tried breeding them (didn't condition them or do anything). So, could these be eggs? If so, are they fertile? (I do not know the mating process) Thanks!

If it looks like the one on the caresheet, as you said, it could well be an egg. Cynops Orientalis often breed of their own accord when they are housed in good conditions. I'm not sure how to determine whether they're fertile; perhaps the best way is to keep an eye on it. Infertile eggs will go cloudy, and opaque.
You could perhaps remove the egg from the tank into a tub of its own; it should quickly become apparent whether the the embryo is developing. Also, this way the adults won't eat the egg.

Thank you a lot karl! Since the eggs are in the java moss, I may have found out why my newt was eating the moss. The other day he was trying to eat the java moss, but he may have been just eating the eggs and got some java moss too. Also, may I ask you how your eggs looked like? Did they stay brown the whole time? These seem to be going white. I'm not sure if the eggs are maturing, or getting fungus?
